Abstract:
Two albums containing approximately 300 photographs and accompanying manuscript illustrate the travels of a French explorer,

province of Yunnan starting from Tonkin (Vietnam), through Tibet and China, and exiting to Bhamo (Burma). The expedition was
primarily via rivers with mules and local porters. Images include tribal Lolos, Kachins and Tibetans; expedition members and
porters; pack mules; river boats, fording rapids; mountains and gorges; stone, wooden, covered and single rope bridges; pagodas,
villages, inns, forts, tombs; water-wheels; zinc mining; funerals; fishing with cormorants; Chinese actors; giant Rhododendrons.
The narrative also refers to rebellion and arms convoys; ruins from a recent Muslim insurrection; several decapitated heads
in cages. Contact with Tibetans is frequently illustrated and includes portraits, a Tibetan camp near Likiang; Tibetan priests
